The book we introduced last week and revealed this week is Chrysanthemum.
Did you guess?
Chrysanthemum loves her name. Her parents gave her the best name. She loves her name until she starts school. The students in her class think her name is funny and make fun of her, suddenly she doesn’t think her name is so great, until they go to music class and the cool music teacher has a flower name too. Now everyone wants a flower name! The music teacher is going to have a baby, and guess what she plans to name her baby? A wonderful story about how words can hurt or heal, and each of us is unique. Chrysanthemum is written by Kevin Henkes and published by Mulberry Books. Recommended for children ages 4-8.
Where is Mrs. Pilcher?
For our next book, what can be more fun than to build your town! It was just a hill with sand, rocks, some wooden boxes, and cacti, but with a little imagination and some work it became their town! It had a mayor and even a jail. This was an actual place and the author’s mother actually helped build this “town.” What is the title of this book? The author is Alice McLerran and the illustrator is Barbara Cooney. The book was published by HarperCollins and is recommended for children ages 4-8.
